The details of Villa Lage

  • A vintage white convertible car with a European license plate is driving down a gravel dirt road lined with green trees and shrubs, with a driver wearing a hat and two dogs sitting in the backseat, in a rural or park setting during daytime.

    Arriving at the Villa

    Where the land meets the sea.

    Villa Lage is easy to reach yet feels wonderfully secluded. From Faro International Airport, the drive takes just 30 minutes, while from Lisbon it’s a scenic three-hour journey along the A2, crossing the vast Alentejo landscape, where olive trees and cork oaks are scattered across the rolling plains. 

    As you approach the National 125 and turn toward Torre d’Aires and Pinheiro, you’ll cross the railway line and follow the road straight toward the waterline, where the horizon opens and nature takes over. Here, you first glimpse the protected wetlands of the Ria Formosa.

    From the water’s edge near by the pier, you enter the gated estate and follow a private drive through olive trees to the pine-shaded park - be aware as a rabbit might quietly cross your path!

    The Entrance

    After leaving your car in the pine-shaded park, a short walk leads you to the villa’s front door, gracefully framed by fragrant roses. Staff will be there to assist with your luggage and ensure you settle in comfortably.

    As you step inside, the entrance hall opens toward the garden and reveals your first view of the lagoon’s shimmering waters from inside the house— an instant invitation to slow down. A glass of freshly infused water awaits, and the feeling of arrival settles in. 

    Most guests choose their suites in advance, using the house layout to assign rooms with ease, allowing everyone to feel immediately at home.

    This large corner double room with terrace is located on the right wing of the top floor. The room features a very comfortable armchair looking to the lagoon – the perfect spot to read, sneaking in a little nap. The bathroom opens directly into the terrace with stunning views to the garden and the sea.

    This middle room is located on the left wing of the top floor. The room has an incredible view over the sea and the lagoon. Just below you’ll see the garden’s gorgeous bougainvillea, adding a splash of color right beneath your window.

    This large corner double room with terrace is located on the left wing of the top floor. It is our biggest room featuring wide, high-ceiling windows facing south and east. A lovely comfortable chaise long is well placed facing the Ria waters to enjoy a bit of solo time. On the shaded terrace there’s a hammock turned toward the most spectacular views of the lagoon. It is the perfect spot to gently sway while admiring the sunrise.

The schinus mole pepper tree, gently sways in the summer breeze, giving in the whole room this wonderfully relaxing summer vibe.

    In the Villa there are 8 bathrooms. Every room has an en suite bathroom with Hairdryer and Towel drier. We have chosen La-Eva Organic Amenities produced in Portugal. La Eva is ocean friendly and the scent has the sensorial feeling of a SPA.

    The East Wing living room

    Framing panoramic views over the blue waters of the Ria Formosa, the living room is bathed in natural light, with wide windows and doors that open directly onto the garden, terrace, and pool - Designed for relaxed gatherings, it features a large TV screen, a curated selection of classic DVD films, and timeless table games for quiet afternoons or convivial evenings.

    Library

    This small living room is what we call our library. It’s a cozy and charming haven featuring an iconic Godin cast iron wood heater. You’ll find the owners private collection of books here, from fiction and travel and lifestyle, cooking, architecture and design. Is the perfect sanctuary during rainy season when you just want to relax and begin a new journey with a great book.

    Kitchen and dining area east wing

    There are two kitchens in the house for different appeals and moods. On the left wing there is an open Kitchen. Each morning the generous counter is set with fresh local produce and homemade delicacies. Breakfast is taken in a round table for 8 people that invites relaxed conversation.

    Outdoor breakfast area

    Some of the members love to sit outside to enjoy breakfast graced by the scent of Jasmine and Lavender. The outdoor table sits 6.

    Swimming pool east wing

    Seafront terrace and pool with sun lounges, little tables and parasols. The east-wing pool is a place to gather and celebrate - family-friendly and perfect for sun-filled gatherings and cocktail evenings.

    Kitchen west wing

    The West Wing kitchen is a beautifully equipped culinary space where the cook prepares bespoke meals tailored to each guest’s preferences. Designed for both function and warmth, it opens onto the indoor dining area and connects seamlessly to the outdoor alfresco terrace.

    Indoor dining area west wing

    Located at the west corner of the house, the indoor dining area sits 12 and is a bright conservatory overlooking the garden and the sea creating a seamless flow between indoors and out.

    Al fresco dining area

    Set beneath the shade of the pine trees, the al fresco dining area features a solid wood table for up to fourteen guests, the perfect spot for long, leisurely meals outdoors. There’s always a gentle breeze, even on the warmest summer days, carrying the scents of the garden and sea. 

    As evening falls, the string lights and candle glow create a magical ambiance for gatherings and special celebrations. The area sits beside the barbecue, where the sound of the fire marks the beginning of the night — guests arrive for cocktails and conversation, sometimes followed by a friendly game of pétanque.

    BBQ area

    Adjacent to the al fresco dining terrace, the BBQ area features a counter and the Big Green Egg, where the chef prepares seasonal delicacies — often inspired by the day’s market finds. As the evening unfolds, it’s a beautiful moment to watch the magic of the Big Green Egg at work — a glass of wine in hand, as friends arrive one by one and the gathering comes to life

    The west-wing pool is a place to unwind and calm down. With 1 mt deep, sun lounges and parasols, offers a quieter, more private setting surrounded by gardens.

    The Garden

    The property is set in, approximately, 4 hectares of Algarvian scrubland: olive and fig trees, umbrella pines, prickly pear trees, lavender and rosemary creating an exceptional setting to be admired against the backdrop of the Ria Formosa and the sea. 

    The land and gardens slope-down to a tidal lagoon where fisherman moor their colourful boats. From the Villa there is direct access to the pier, running and cycling trails.

Every terrace at Villa Lage is shaded and elevated, offering panoramic views over the lagoon and gardens below. The surrounding grounds are carefully landscaped yet natural and autochthonous.

Waterfront Location

When you feel like a dip in the ocean, the Villa’s private boat will take you from the pier to a seemingly never-ending, untouched and secluded desert beach.
